Though I'm not overly enthusiastic about all the trades this writer uses in his mock, his write-up on Pitts is one of the best in terms of talking how great he is at catching the ball and and also praising his blocking and athleticism. It's a great write-up (see below). He has Pitts to the Giants at 11.
And I absolutely love the thought of the Dolphins getting Toney with the 18th pick. This writer also has Miami trading out of the #3 pick to the Chargers. That has them picking #13 and #18 in his mock. Not sure what else Miami would get, because there's absolutely nothing noted in here besides them getting the #13 pick for that. LOL. So, that's not gonna happen without some sweetener from the Chargers.

Kyle Pitts is one of the most dominant receiving prospects we’ve seen at the tight end position. Travis Kelce was a third-round selection. Darren Waller was a receiver convert from college, and he plays at a different level than guys like Noah Fant.

Pitts is a legitimate X-receiver in a tight end’s frame. He can line up out wide and use his frame and athleticism as a deep threat down the sideline. Pitts can sink his hips and separate on whip and return routes underneath. He can be a menace over the short middle area of the field because of his length.

What isn’t discussed enough, however, is his abilities as a blocker. He is more than just a glorified receiver. This young man puts in the work when he has his hand in the dirt.

Pitts is not necessarily a people mover, but he is very often in the correct position to use his leverage to seal running lanes for backs. Admittedly, the fit with OC Jason Garrett should scare some out there who remember years of six-yard Jason Witten option routes. Nevertheless, the Giants desperately need weapons on offense, and Pitts offers just that in this 2021 2-round NFL mock draft.

Miami takes Toney over Pitts, even though Pitts is the better player by a wide margin. But because they have a good tight end, they won't take Pitts (even though comparing him to Gesicki isn't exactly fair). And there is no reason why the author's "top 10" talent in Pitts falls this far. Other than it made for him to have a different take probably.

Pairing Pitts with George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Kyle Shanahan’s brain is an opportunity too good to pass up. That right there would be a scary personnel package to defend.

Pitts generated a 96.2 PFF grade this year, more than five grading points higher than any other tight end and well above the previous record set by former FAU Owl and now-Cleveland Brown Harrison Bryant in 2019 (92.5). The Giants receiving corps was one of the worst in the NFL in 2020 — the selection of Pitts goes a long way toward changing that.

The versatile tight end played just shy of 64% of his offensive snaps inline, but he dominated unlike any other tight end we had ever seen when he lined up out wide in single coverage. Pitts went toe-to-toe with press coverage when lined up out wide for 40 receiving snaps this season and came away with seven explosive receptions of 15-plus yards on those opportunities. We have never seen a tight end record more than two of those in a single year before Pitts this season.

He has physical gifts, for sure. But he gets beat for the ball too often in my opinion. And yes, he obviously got a lot of vitriol (much of it deserved) and that has def clouded partial people.

You can’t go wrong with either player at No. 5 overall, but the bigger impact in the wins column (and Joe Burrow’s development) comes with adding Pitts as a weapon for the offense than securing Sewell's services as an upgrade over either former first-round pick Jonah Williams or newly signed veteran Riley Reiff.

Pitts can immediately be the Bengals’ top receiving option and a top-five tight end in the NFL as a rookie — he’s that good.
