Over the last two years the Florida State Seminoles have a bit of a decline on the field. Off the field, things are starting to get pretty bad, too.

The NCAA released its APR (Academic Progress Rating) report this week, and according to the Tallahassee Democrat, Florida State is in a bad place. FSU’s score on the rating was the lowest of any FBS school.

The program’s multi-year average fell to 936 out of 1000 following a score of 922 for the 2017-18 academic calendar. Per the Tallahassee Democrat, the Seminoles are only six points clear of being academically eligible to participate in championships.

Beyond championships, the NCAA mandates multiple punishments that can significantly inhibit the program.

From practice limitations to coaching suspensions to financial aid reductions, any school that falls below the 930 threshold could get into some serious trouble.

The past year has not been kind to Florida State. The team went 5-7 in 2018 and missed out on bowl eligibility for the first time since 1981.

Following the season, starting quarterback Deondre Francois was dismissed from the team.

Suffice it to say, there is going to be a lot of pressure on head coach Willie Taggart to turn things around next year. If his students don’t hit the books, he’ll have a lot more to worry about than game-planning.
