Kentucky Bourbon barrel aged Ale. Not good.
I didn't like it either. Way too much bourbon heat. I'm kinda avoiding the bourbon barrel stuff lately.
To me the only two types of beer that should be aged in bourbon barrels are stouts and porters. Ales just don't work.
Even then, meh. I want(ed) stout or porter to taste like that, not bourbon. Want a bourbon flavor? Drink bourbon. I tried a bunch and never cared for any of them.

If subtle then fine but they smack you in the face with it more times than not

I had some cognac barrel aged rum and it was fantastic. It was damn near $100 a bottle though.

Just back from Pensacola Beach from happy hour. Gordon's winds blowing 30 to 40, decent sized band coming through, bridges still open, pizza delivery cars still zipping by. looks like a direct hit on Biloxi, those poor SOBs. Winds starting to howl a bit. Time for another drink! :numby:

One of my sisters is a marketing exec for the Tunica/Gulf Coast casinos. She doesn't like scotch and passed these on to me.

They are fantastic.

The neighbors brother in law is a whiskey collector/trader. He gave me sample of Powers from an 1885 bottle found in a basement. It was just OK. It was a bit like Jamaican rum. Both are famously from pot stills I suppose. Kind of a mellow round taste in there. Like sourdough? I compared it to Powers John's Lane 12 year which is supposed to approximate old Powers. I see some resemblances but I liked the new better. Nice novelty though.

I think I have, what the whisky-tards call, a first pour. This shit is darker than any scotch I have had. The sherry taste is strong.

Which one the Balvenie or Glenfiffich?

My son brought something back from Scotland but I can’t remember what.

You would expect an older sherry cask whisky to be dark, but it probably has caramel coloring (aka e150) too. Eighty or ninety percent of even the most expensive scotch does. Theoretically it is tasteless. Some say they can taste it. Some seek out uncolored whisky exclusively. I am not sure it matters to taste. I am mildly annoyed they are scamming me.

I got sooooo wasted last night. At one point, we were sitting outside the bar, vaping weed with the kitchen manager and our server.
Downtown is awesome when the students are gone.

Need some fairly available recommendations for bourbon, scotch, cognac, 30-50$ range or there abouts.
